Kings, Queens, Castles & Dragons
In Kindergarten we are just completing our fairytale unit about Kings, Queens, Castles and Dragons. We created a series of projects using various mediums that all related to our theme. First students learned about castle architecture and created watercolor paintings of their own castle design. Then we created self portraits drawings of ourselves as kings or queens. Lastly we created symmetrical friendly or ferocious dragon masks. After taking class votes the dragon masks were a favorite among many!

Fish Eyes are Everywhere!
The kindergarteners have been busy learning about the elements of art line, shape and color. After learning about lots of different types of lines we made our own lined paper to paint. Student then drew different shapes on their paper to create fish! We read the book fish eyes to learn about the different shapes of fish and then added some eyes of our own.
The kindergarteners are always excited to take things home right away, but they are learning that many art projects have multiple steps. I also recently told students that we will have an Art Show in the Spring where every student will have a piece of their art on display.

Broadway Boogie Woogie
The kindergartners were very excited to start their second art project! They are learning about the artist Piet Mondrian and how he painted with the primary colors RED, YELLOW and BLUE! We learned that he uses vertical and horizontal lines to make squares and rectangles in his artwork. The kindergarteners then practiced making their own straight horizontal and vertical lines with rulers. Now we are working on painting our pictures with the primary colors just like Mondrian!
Kindergarten Art
GRE’s artists have had a great start to the school year breaking in the art room! After learning about being Art SmART, taking an art room tour and making portfolios to keep our projects in students were very excited to begin their first art project! This year our theme is “Once upon a time every famous artist was a child” so our first projects were based on books.
The kindergarteners read the story Color Zoo and reviewed their shapes. We then created their own animals out of shapes and painted them with dots and lines. To finish our pictures they used patterns to print a boarder around our pictures!
