Pointillism Hearts
The third graders learned about artists who use hearts as their subject matter and a style of art called pointillism. Students used cue tips to create the dot hearts and designs.
Keith Haring Action Art
The third graders loved learning about the artist Keith Haring. He is famous for his pop art style with bright colors, cartoon looking people, and action. Students drew their own people, added action lines, and then chose a symbol to include in their artwork.
Elements of Art Design Project
3rd Graders are working on a design project based on the Elements of Art. They were given four challenges...
1. Draw 5- 10 differnt sized circles to fill the page
2. Each circle must overlap at least one other circle
3. Two or more circles must go off the page
4. Each circle must be filled with a different line, shape, or design.
Students then chose a color group (primary colors, secondary colors, warm colors, or cool colors) to fill in their spaces with lines, shapes, and patterns.

O'Keefe Inspired Flowers
The third graders have been busy learning about the artist Georgia O’Keefe and the close up flowers that she is famous for painting. We also learned that Georgia O'Keefe was so famous because she was a woman painter and had her own style of art. Students then practiced drawing their own flowers in O’Keefe’s style. . . CLOSE UP! After outlining them in oil pastels we painted them using watercolors.
3rd Grade Art
GRE’s artists have had a great start to the school year breaking in the art room! After learning about being Art SmART, taking an art room tour and making portfolios to keep our projects in students were very excited to begin their first art project! This year our theme is “Once upon a time every famous artist was a child” so our first projects were based on books.
The third graders read the story A Color of My Own and created their own chameleon collage. We painted our chameleons with analogous colors (colors next to each other on the color wheel) and then brainstormed what they could be standing on the same color for their collage. When students finished their collage they worked on writing their own story about thier chameleon!
