First graders have been learning about the African art of Kente Cloth weaving. They made their own paper looms, learned to weave, painted patters and even added yarn for texture!
Second grade students are learning about the element of shape by comparing geometric and organic shapes. They looked at the artwork of Reggie Laurent and created their own abstract shape collages in his style. KG students learned about the artist Piet Mondrian and how he painted with the primary colors.... Red, yellow, and blue! They then created their own Mondrian inspired paintings. The first graders listened to music last art class and used glue to draw lines that matched the rhythm. Today Mrs. Dean's class learned about the warm and cool colors. Students chose one color group and blended them together using chalk pastels. The third grade has been learning about the element of art, SHAPE! We discussed the two kinds of 2D shapes (geometric and organic) and the difference between them. Students are now working on painting their abstract shape project with the warm and cool colors. Stay tuned for their finished works! |
